The History of the LF-62 Model
The LF-62 model was one of Helly Hansens more advanced models. It was the first Helly Hansen mask to be equipped with a voice diaphragm. The mask was made mainly for the Norwegian civil defence, but was also used by civilians, NSB (Norwegian National Trains Service), Statens vegvesen (National road safety service). The Norwegian police did not have any standard gas mask to use until the late 90s, so prior to this they would borrow the LF-62 from the civil defence whenever they needed to.
Helly Hansen - Model LF-62
Unlike the A59 and the A62, the LF-62 used a sidemounted 40mm filter and had a voice voice diaphragm. The LF-62 has a strange open visor that bends down around the oposite side to the filter. It uses a simple six point harness system. All the harnesses are connected to a rectangular PVC patch. The filter was a simple grey 40mm filter but it was unique to the LF-62. This filter was not issued with other Helly Hansen masks. The outlet valve is the same as seen on the A62.
The carrier for the LF-62 is pretty much identical to the carrier for the A-62.
The carrier for the A-62 consisted of one simple room for the mask and a small pocket on the inside for the manual. The carrier seen in the photo to the left is the most common carrier for the A-62, but it has also been seen with the box shaped carrier that was issued with the A-59. The carrier is made out of grey PVC and has a simple carrying strap which can be adjusted. The carrier can be closed with a simple velcro patch.
The filter was a simple grey 40mm filter but it was unique to the LF-62. This filter was not issued with other Helly Hansen masks. The outlet valve is the same as seen on the A62.
